I’m Engaged!

How did it Happen?

The question on everyone’s mind, well let me start by saying it was a complete surprise. I didn’t have the smallest inclination of what was about to happen.

A few weeks ago Drew and I attended a baby shower for our friend Nico. Nico happens to be a photographer. So during the baby shower, our Nico approached us and said that he is looking to photograph more couples for his portfolio and asked us if we would be interested in doing a shoot with him. Of course, I said yes! I’m always jumping at the opportunity to shoot with Drew.

Little did I know him asking us to do a couples photo shoot was the first step in Drew’s engagement proposal plan.

The Morning of the Proposal

The day before the proposal I asked Drew to give me more details as far as when and where we were going to meet Nico (the photographer) and he said he would get back to me with the details. Of course, he didn’t so Thursday morning I wake up at 6am. I ask him what time do we have to leave to meet up with Nico and he says 8:30am. So I got a little flustered because I wanted to get a workout in before leaving the house. So I end up just going for a short run. I rush back to make breakfast, shower, wash my hair, my make-up and get dressed.

We leave the house close to 9am and drive all the way to Palos Verde, California which took us a little over an hour to get there. I’m going, to be honest, I wasn’t super enthusiastic about going to the shoot since my morning was a little rushed. However, things were looking up since I was happy with the photos Nico was capturing.

Drew was also being super playful with me, which is pretty normal for him. I mean he’s always trying to make laugh.

The Proposal

During the photo shoot, Nico suggested I turn around and give my back to Drew. He said to look out into the distance as if I’m thinking about our future together. That should’ve been a hint but I didn’t think anything of it. I just played along and after a few shots, he said cool. Now let’s take some of you looking at him.

So I start to turn around to face him. Completely oblivious to the situation. And then the moment that I’ve been waiting for my entire life…. I turn around and I see him on one knee with the ring and I instantly started crying. I was so shocked! It was like the entire world just stopped for a second, I even forgot that Nico was there taking photos. And felt like it was just me and him.

I remember looking at him on one knee and then I seeing the ring and then I looking back at him and his eyes were filled with tears.

“This is happening.”

I thought and I couldn’t believe that it was happening. And honestly, it’s kind of a blur after that. I remember him saying “I love you,” and something about how we met two and a half years ago. And then he popped the question, “Will you marry me?”

I nodded, saying yes and leaped into his arms. Both us still in tears.

The moment was absolutely beautiful. I just felt like the entire world went silent and it was so peaceful. I couldn’t hear anything but his voice. The sun was shining on him and even though I was crying, internally I felt extremely calm. After he put the ring on it, we kept looking at each other smiling, laughing, hugging and kissing.
