What to do in Solvang Ca During the Week
Solvang, CA, has been on my bucket list for a while because of its cute danish architecture and wineries. So I’m happy that I was finally able to explore it this past week for my birthday. Because COVID is still present in California and because we were visiting mid-week. We did a lot of research on What to do in Solvang, CA, during the week. So here is my overnight trip itinerary to Solvang so you can use it for your next trip.
Why Visit Solvang, Ca
Solvang is only a two-hour drive from Los Angeles, making it the perfect weekend getaway, day trip, or staycation for Southern Californians.
Solvang is known as “A little slice of Denmark in Southern California” for its various Danish-inspired windmills, architecture, and numerous merchants offering a taste of Denmark.
Where to Stay in Solvang
There are many options for lodging, whether you are interested in family, budget-friendly, romantic, or luxury accommodations.
We stayed at Wine Valley Inn & Cottages because of its aesthetics and price point.
The customer service was excellent. The front desk gentleman allowed us to check in early. When we got to our room, we were so excited because it looked exactly like the photos on their website.
We did have a minor issue with the room, so we went to the front desk, and they upgraded us to a Chateau Loft Suite. This was unexpected, but it tells me that they really care about their guest experience.
Breakfast is included in your stay. However, because of COVID, they implemented a grab & go system. So basically, in the mornings, you go to their dining area, grab breakfast, and take it back to your room.
They also have a wine bar that is currently closed because of COVID. But they did give us a couple of 2 for 1 ticket for other wine tasting rooms in the area.
What to do in Solvang?
Even though Solvang is a small town theirs definitely plenty to do and see on your overnight trip.
Ostrichland
OstrichLand is technically located in Buellton, CA, but only 5 minutes away from Solvang. So it made a great first stop on our trip.
Getting to feed the Ostriches was so cool. In my Solvang Youtube Vlog, you can see them in action by clicking here or scrolling to the bottom.
Wine Tasting
We visited two wine tasting rooms. Currently, they are only doing outdoor tastings. But I assure you that they’ve set up some cute patio spaces for you to enjoy their wines.
- Lucas & Lewellen is located on Copenhagen Drive, which is currently closed to vehicular traffic. So it’s close to other tasting rooms and shops.
- Caca Cassara is located on Mission Drive. They have their patio set up in the back. And I forgot his name, but our waiter/ sommelier was so nice and shared all his wine knowledge with us.
Restaurants and Bakeries
- Solvang Bakery has an Instagram-worthy aesthetic with its pink patio furniture.
- Brekkies is the place to go for a hearty breakfast and mimosas. They give you a glass of orange juice with your own little champagne bottle. That way, you pour your own champagne. So cute!
- Man & Vin at The Landsby is open daily for dinner from 5–9 p.m. They have an attractive outdoor patio, and the service is fantastic. The menu is concise but delicious. Their flourless chocolate cake with strawberry ice cream is to die for.
- Mortensen’s Danish Bakery: Has so many options to choose from. We picked up a couple of things, and they were all so yummy.
- Cafe Dolce: Has a variety of smoothies, protein shakes, and gelato flavors. This is really close to the Solvang Park, so I suggest you grab your favorite treat, walk 200 ft and enjoy it under the Solvang Park gazebo.
Windmills
Take your Instagram-worthy photo at one of these danish inspired windmills.
- 436 Alisal Rd: This Solvang windmill is next to the Solvang Bakery I mentioned above.
- 1622 Copenhagen Dr: (pictured above) Located on Solvang main street. Copenhagen drive is currently closed to vehicular traffic until the end of the year. So you can take as long as you want to get that perfect shot.
- 1547 Mission Dr: right across from The Landsby.
Farmers Market
Every Wednesday from 2:30- 6:30 p.m., you can walk down Copenhagen drive and pick up local fruits, veggies, flowers, etc.
In conclusion, there’s plenty to do in Solvang even though COVID is still keeping some shops close
All the places I listed here were places we actually visited and experienced.
In October, Solvang will feature its annual Scarecrow Fest, a great family-friendly (open-air!) experience for children and adults! Click here for more Scarecrow Fest details.
