How to See Beauty in the Everyday
We all have bad days and sometimes when it seems like nothing is going our way, noticing the beauty that surrounds us can be difficult. Staying positive when sh*** is hitting the fan can be challenging. Life is tough right? But what if I told you can control the way you react to negativity…
So I started reading this book recently The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey and there was this line that stood out to me,
It’s not what happens to us, but our response to what happens to us that hurt us.”
And it’s true I am super guilty of this. I like to be positive most of the time, but sometimes I let little things affect my mood more than I should. Like when someone is extremely rude to me at work and I had a super stressful day I might carry that energy with me all the way home. Then what ends up happing is that I don’t notice that Drew did something really nice like, cleaning the dishes and miss the opportunity to say “Thank You, I appreciate you.”
How I notice the Beauty in the Everyday
One of the things I like to do, let’s say if I’m in my car driving is turn off the radio. And I start to notice everything around not just the car in front of me. I’ll look to my side and I’ll see people jamming to music, literally having a party in their car or people walking by laughing and it’s a reminder that life is beautiful.
Which is exactly what happened to me the other day. I was at a stop light and I looked to my left and I noticed these beautiful pink blooms (featured in these photos.)
These beautiful blossoming trees are smacked right in the middle of a congested intersection. But when I saw them my eyes literally lit up because they were so beautiful. And they had a serene quality to them. So when I got home I told Drew we needed to go there and take some pictures.
Two days later when we made it the park Drew said: “wow, you’re right it’s beautiful!” The funny thing is that we’ve both driven by it multiple times before and never noticed it.
Lessoned learned, that even in the midst of all the chaos and negativity there is still beauty that surrounds us. We just need to take a deep breath, open our eyes and really see. Because beauty is everywhere and in everything. Take the time to see and appreciate it.
Have a blessed day TEA Birds!
