Rosson House Museum in Arizona

Sightseeing and history lessons are always my favorite part about traveling. So when I found out we were going to Phoenix, Arizona I was excited because I’d never visited before. We didn’t have a whole lot of time to explore the city since we were there for a family function. However, a visit to the Rosson House Museum fit right into our schedule.

Heritage Square or Block 14

The Rosson House museum sits right on Heritage Square, the oldest residential block in the city of Phoenix, Arizona. Back in the late 1800s as I learned during my visit this part of Phoenix was divided into 98 blocks and Heritage Square was originally known as Block 14. Flora Murray Rosson initially purchased the Block in 1882. Today Block 14 better known as Heritage Square is definitely a blast from the past with 10 historic buildings still standing and restored to their original grandeur.

The Rosson House Museum is open for tours that last about an hour Wednesday through Sunday. Regular admissions tickets are $9 but we got in for $8 with our AAA discount. You can check their website here for more info on rates, special events, and group reservations.

The Rossen House is a Victorian-style two-story home with 10 rooms and 5 fireplaces. You would think that is why this home was considered modern for its time. But that is not the reason. This home was deemed to be modern and luxurious because of its many features. Features that many today in the 21st-century take for granted. For example running hot and cold water, electricity, a telephone and most surprising to me a closet. As our tour guide explained to us, back in the day people only had about 2-3 outfits for the entire year so there was no need for closets. Obviously, that has changed with the times. Nowadays, we are always looking for extra closet space.

Oh my gosh, we took so many pictures and I wish I could show them all to you. I just loved this Victorian-style home. It was beautiful. But oh well, I guess you’re just gonna have to travel to Phoenix, Arizona to see it for yourself.

The Rosson House is definitely a sight to see when in Phoenix along with the entire Heritage Square. As their slogan says “Dare to be Square!” haha I love that.
