5 Things You Can Do To Start the New Year Right

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2021 I hope you had a safe NYE celebration. I stayed home with my husband made the best of the situation and also had lots of fun. You can view my NYE celebration Vlog below 😉. But I also did a few things to prep for the new year and I want to share them with you. So if you are in need of some inspiration to start the new year right keep reading.

5 Easy Things You Can Do To Start The New Year Right

I want to emphasize that these are the things I did to get me in the right mindset to start the new year. But you can also do them every quarter, at the beginning of each month or anytime you think you need to. The idea is get a clean slate or a quick recharge. Lets get into it.

1. Get a Planner

I started looking for a physical planner to get ready for 2021 a few months ago. Because I knew I wanted to be more organized in the new year. I wanted a planner that was going to get me excited to start my mornings along with helping me build better habits. And I found the perfect one Good Morning, Good Life Planner by Amy Landino was the perfect one for me. Not only is it cute but it has all the sections that I need to keep me focused on my goals.

2. Read a Self-Help Book

So when I found the perfect planner for me I learned that the planner was created because of the Good Morning, Good Life book “5 Simple Habits to Master Your Mornings and Upgrade Your Life” So I bought the book and planner together and I’m so glad I did. I read the book in less than a week and got so much value and helpful tips to start off my mornings right. This leads me to the next thing I did to start the new year right.

3. Started a Morning & Bedtime Routine

I didn’t want to wait until the new year to start better habits. So I started figuring it out as soon as I could. And to you, I say start today! You don’t have to wait until next Monday or the first of a new month or year. First, figure out how many hours of sleep you need. I like to get 7.5 – 8 hours every night. So I reversed engineered what time I should be in bed sleeping by knowing what time I need to be awake.

So for my bedtime routine, I start shutting off all electronics an hour before I want to be sleeping. I also switch my light source from electricity to candles because I want to start signaling my body that it’s time to go to sleep.

4. Zero out my Inbox

I actually do this every few months or weeks. I take the time to go through my emails unsubscribe from newsletters, delete what I don’t need, and archive into folders what I want to keep. Before I started doing this a couple of years ago I had over 30k unread emails. So every time I went into my inbox I would feel overwhelmed by that number. But I don’t feel like that anymore because I’ve gotten into this consistent habit.

5. Cleaned My Home

This is a tradition that I’m sure some of you have heard of before. But for those who haven’t you basically clean your home and get rid of all the old things you don’t want to carry into the new year. The reason why I do it is that when I wake up on January 1st I want to wake up to a clean and organized home that will support my new efforts and goals for the new year.

Hope for the New Year

I hope this list gives you a jump start on some new habits you can create to start the new year right. I know that COVID is not over and newer restrictions and lockdowns are being announced almost every day. But we survived 2020 and now it’s time to start looking forward towards a better tomorrow and that starts with us.
